I have drawn Alex, Christian, Constanze, Consuelo, Giacomo, Giuliano, Ernestine, Ero, Fabienne, Irma, Jeremy, Jörg, Karin, Karsten, Katja, Lara, Manuela, Michele, Miriam, Sabine, Stefan, Thorsten, and I will draw some other people too. The former have posed for me and the latter will as well.
Before that I drew Marijana and Matea, Mia and Dolina, Fijolić and Švabo, Ivana and Marko, Miranda and Stanko, Barbara and Lucija, Deša, Ivana, Jelena and Zdravka, Igor and the other Igor, Sanja and Nera. Nera is actually a dog, but I also drew the Beech and the Creek Reflecting the Sun and the Young Tree and the Old Chestnut Tree and the Red Rocks, which also posed for me. But this was somehow different, I made these drawings because I used them as drafts for paintings (like the photographs I used to paint some people and things after).
What do I really want to achieve when I try to faithfully reproduce a face that I observe before me? I cannot give any coherent answer to this question. Perhaps it is important for me to be together with people, to sit across them for hours, day after day, and feel that slight unease, that quiet excitement which overcomes us when our eyes meet.
All drawings in this series, started in 2005, were made with pencil and crayon on 40×30 cm paper sheets, the net format of the drawings being 29,5×21 cm.
